Biography

Michael Ryan serves in dual leadership roles at Dell Medical School and UT Medicine. As Chief Administrative Officer, he partners with Dean Lucchinetti to advance organizational strategy and operations, overseeing all administrative functions. As Chief Information Officer, he leads the technology, digital, and data strategies that power Dell Med’s clinical care, education, and research missions. He also serves as the University of Texas’ chief health care technology, digital, and data strategist, ensuring alignment across the higher ed and healthcare portfolios.

Prior to joining Dell Med, Mr. Ryan spent more than three decades at Mayo Clinic, including serving as Chief Administrative Officer of Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC) in Abu Dhabi, a joint venture between Mayo Clinic and Abu Dhabi Health Services Company. In partnership with the physician CEO, he led the development and execution of strategic and operational plans to transform SSMC into an academic destination medical center for patients with complex needs.

Before his role at SSMC, Mr. Ryan held numerous leadership positions during his 33-year career in information technology at Mayo Clinic, culminating in his service as Chair of the Department of Information Technology. In this enterprise-wide role, he partnered with executive leadership to deliver comprehensive technology services supporting Mayo Clinic’s tripart mission. Over his decade as IT Department Chair, he oversaw major modernization initiatives, enterprise replatforming, large-scale operations, service delivery, and workforce development.

Mr. Ryan holds a bachelor’s degree from Metropolitan State University in Minnesota and a master’s degree in management from Cardinal Stritch University in Wisconsin.
