Biography

Craig T. Albanese, MD, MBA, is President, Integrated Care and Coverage, for Kaiser Permanente Health Plan, Inc. and Hospitals – the largest integrated non-profit healthcare delivery system in the United States. In this role, he oversees day-to-day operations and drives strategy and performance across all nine US markets for the integrated health care system.

Albanese has extensive strategic and operational leadership experience from multiple top health systems. He most recently served as the chief executive officer of Duke University Health System, where he previously was executive vice president and chief operating officer. During his tenure, he has advanced quality, strategic growth, operational excellence, and workforce initiatives during a period of significant transformation.

Prior to joining Duke, Albanese held multiple leadership roles at NewYork-Presbyterian, including serving as the chief clinical integration officer and the system chief medical officer, leading efforts in rapid expansion and system integration. He was also chief operating officer for the organization's women's and children's hospital.

An accomplished administrator and pediatric surgeon, Albanese has more than 25 years of leadership experience spanning quality and process improvement, medical education, and perioperative services, including prior roles at Stanford Children’s Health and the University of California, San Francisco.

He is the lead author of Advanced Lean in Healthcare and has published more than 160 peer-reviewed articles. Albanese earned his undergraduate degree from Washington and Lee University, his medical degree from the State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn, and his MBA from the Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University.
